We recently held our Stand 2014 Conference where we explored various initiatives God has taken on our behalf that allow us to stand in a broken and confused world.
The assurance of forgiveness, as God's first initiative, is the bedrock upon which every other initiative builds. At the cross is where we take our stand in the love of Jesus Christ.
After I shared about our total and complete forgiveness, a lady came up to me and said, "I’ve never seen the depths of God’s forgiveness like that before."
I want to share this message with you as my way of saying thank you for your financial gift to Basic Gospel this month. I titled it, In the Love of God. It will help you take your stand in the love of Jesus Christ. Also, this is a wonderful message to share with others.
Based on thirty plus years of ministry experience, here are three observations:
- All Christians know that Jesus died to forgive their sins.
- Even with the clear declaration of God’s word that our sins—past, present and future—have been forgiven through the finished work of Jesus Christ, Christians still struggle with fear and guilt. They wonder if they’ve been forgiven or not.
- Confusion on this most fundamental truth hampers every other aspect of the Christian life.
Please, let these observations sink in, particularly the third one. The first place I go with someone struggling to live the Christian life is the forgiveness issue. Most often, that is where the problem lies. A life filled with confusion, doubt and fear is not God’s plan for you. He wants to clear away these things in your life, and He does so by connecting you to His overwhelming love and grace.
We see this love on full display at the cross. Paul explains, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Miroslav Volf, a professor of theology at Yale, wrote in his book, Free of Charge, "God is the God who forgives." Jesus’ act of grace through death brings this forgiveness to our hearts.
Let me ask you. Do you know that God has forgiven your sins? If not, do you long to know God’s forgiveness? Do you want to experience rest and peace and assurance?
The Gospel tells you this: You can know and experience God’s forgiveness. What you are looking for is found in Christ’s finished work on the cross.
If you want to grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ and experience his love, the cross is the place to start. This most important of all questions, "Has God forgiven my sin?" is answered in the death of Jesus Christ. The answer is YES; absolutely, positively yes!
Your investment in Basic Gospel makes it possible for us to bring this incredible truth to people around the world. In a very real sense you are working hand-in-glove with us to do so, and we thank you.
Michael Kelly Blanchard wrote a song whose lyrics underscore the reality of forgiveness. This is the chorus.
Oh, be ye glad. Oh, be ye glad.
Every debt that you ever had
Has been paid up in full by the grace of the Lord.
Be Ye Glad. Be Ye Glad. Be Ye Glad!
Please give your most generous gift now to reach the hearts and minds of those who are crying out for answers. $100, $200, $500 or more will bring the assurance of forgiveness to hundreds of people.
Your partnership with us is more critical now than ever before. Your prayers and support literally save lives as Jesus brings his forgiveness home to listeners on radio and the internet. Thank you in advance for what you give this month.
