Being the Church

Dear Friend,

Today, I write to you with a sense of urgency. Basic Gospel needs your immediate help.

Can I count on you today to send a gift to help us continue connecting hurting hearts to the love of Jesus Christ?

A slow summer put us in a deep financial hole. To get back to level ground, we need an outpouring of generosity from friends just like you.

To be specific, we are trusting the Lord to provide $501,000 during the last quarter of the year.

This may sound like a bold request, but not in light of what God is doing through Basic Gospel.

Last week I met with our representative from He shared wonderful news with us. More people have responded to Basic Gospel during the summer months than to any other ministry.

  • Over 23,000 unique visits to Basic Gospel on OnePlace.
  • 890 new people reached out to us to request more information, to order a resource or to tell us specifically how the ministry helped them gain a deeper understanding of God’s love.
  • Over 18,400 streams of ministry content.

On top of all the good news, I read this e-mail from Jenny who works with the House of Hope, an outreach ministering to the children of Haiti.

“…I am interested in giving our kids more of this great message, so I was wondering if I could translate the daily messages that Basic Gospel sends out via e-mail. I’m particularly interested in the one on forgiveness. This would give me some bite-size chunks to pass on to our kids as I’m working on the book to put in their hands.

I also wanted to share this story with you.

One of our young men really needed to hear the message of “Love Is” quickly, and I just couldn’t get it translated in time for him. So, a couple of months ago, I sat with him every evening for over a month and just verbally translated the message to him as he just drank it up. To say it changed his life is an understatement. He was so blown away by the message he was receiving he immediately started sharing them with the other kids at the House of Hope. It was a neat thing to see.

I’m excited to see how the message of God’s Love, Grace and Freedom will transform the lives of these young people.” Jenny

These stories thrill my heart. And they also remind me of the wonderful team of people God is using to bring about these stories.

This month, our theme on radio is the church.

What is the church? That is the question so many believers struggle to answer.

The simple answer is this: We are the church.

The Greek word for church is ekklesia and it means those who are called out. Are you a believer in Christ? If so, you are one of the called out ones, a member of the church. It happened when God, through the Gospel, called you out of the world and placed you in Christ.

As individual believers, we belong to something that is much bigger than ourselves. Paul put it this way: “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others” (Romans 12:4, 5).

These stories that God is writing through Basic Gospel are the result of us being the church in this world of darkness.

I want to see more of these grace stories being written in lives all around the world. That’s why I’m being so bold in asking for your help.

Your prayers and financial support are critical at this point in time. We have a unique place in the body of Christ. Our efforts are helping to make the basic Gospel of Jesus Christ practical and real for our OnePlace listeners, our radio listeners, for Jenny and the children she ministers to in Haiti and to thousands of others around the world.

As one listener recently commented on the broadcast, “You’ve helped me get to where I need to be in Christ.”

Please give your most generous gift to help us meet our $501,000 goal by the end of the year. $50, $100, $150 or more will mean so much. If you can, let me hear from you today.

Thank you for making yourself available to advance the message and mission of the ministry.

In the love and life of Jesus Christ,

Bob Christopher
