Jesus is Alive

Dear Friend,

"Mayday! Mayday! I’m sinking..."

This was the opening line of an e-mail I received recently. My heart went out to this gentleman as I read his story.

Hi Bob C, I just want to ask, if I am one who struggles with being saved how can I help my son (age 27) see God as a loving God? ...I don't want him to turn away from God's ways. I am what some have said to be a doubting Thomas. I know the only way to be saved is through faith in Christ, but faith is hard for me. I always seem to have a "I hope" or "I think maybe" in the back of my mind. I’ve asked Christ to come into my life many times, but have never experienced the power of the Spirit you talk about on your program.

I no longer have the strength to continue the fight for God's invitation to the party you all enjoy, but I don't want to pull my son down with me. Sorry to sound so pathetic; I’m just tired of the struggle. I’d settle for a seat at the gates of heaven if there was a chance Christ might walk by once in a while. What would you say to my son? Thanks.

I am writing to you this month on this gentleman’s behalf, and the thousands upon thousands of others who are tired of the struggle. They need your help, your support and your prayers. You can help them find peace and assurance through your gifts to Basic Gospel.

I’ve been where this gentleman is today. I doubted my salvation and prayed numerous times to receive Christ in my life. Faith was hard for me, too. This may have been your story as well. If so, you know the frustration, the fear, the doubt and the deep longing for rest and peace.

You also know that the solution is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and particularly, the good news that Jesus is alive! This is why I am asking you, on behalf of this gentleman and so many others, to give generously this month to Basic Gospel.

Several years ago, Jeanna and I retraced Jesus’ final steps from the Garden of Gethsemane to the empty tomb. This was the most moving experience we’ve ever had, and it was one that connected me to the reality of the resurrection like never before.

This is the sticking point for the critics and skeptics. They laugh and jeer at us for believing such "nonsense." But it did happen. Christ was raised from the dead. We believers stake everything on this one historical fact. It is so important to us that Paul boldly asserted, "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith." (1 Corinthians 15:14)

Without the resurrection, we might as well eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die. But with it, everything changes.

This is the point that struck Jeanna and me most profoundly.

The cross is where our stale, empty lives end. It is at the empty tomb where new life begins. When Jeanna and I sat in front of that garden tomb, the words from Don Francisco's song reverberated through our minds—He's Alive! He's Alive!

This is the story of Christianity. Here is the good news.

The power that released Jesus’ body from death and clothed it with immortality is the same power that is available to us for living here and now. Living in this power changes us and enables us to experience a quality of life we’ve never known before.

This is what my friend is looking for. This is what I was looking for.

Thank you for investing to get this good news into the lives of people all around the world. Through your gifts, you are helping people come to the end of their struggles and the beginning of life lived in the power of Christ’s resurrection.

Every day, we meet people who are longing for something new and better. They want to break free from a stale, empty life.

We can answer the "Mayday! Mayday!" call from listeners around the world by continuing the good work of sharing the love and life of Jesus Christ. This announcement of hope rescues those trapped in the struggle and offers an invitation to experience the power of the resurrection here and now.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Bob Christopher
