One of the big questions about Christianity, for believers and non-believers alike, is this: How does an event that happened 2000 years ago make a difference to people today?
The answer to this question is a mystery to most. They don’t see how Christ’s death, burial and resurrection are relevant to everyday life.
Let me tell you, that mystery is being revealed for many people through the Basic Gospel broadcast.

Here is the answer to the mystery. How the Gospel affects us here and now is through the work of the Holy Spirit. He is the One who connects the historical event to our present day reality.
This is what Peter explained on the day of Pentecost.
God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today. (Acts 2:32-33 NLT)
Pentecost was the day when God sent His Spirit to live in His people.
This also happened to you the day you received Jesus Christ as your life. On that day, you received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Paul described this as “Christ in you, your hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27)
Think about this. The Jesus who died and was raised to life way back then is living in you today. And He is always with you—through thick and thin.
And it is through Christ’s indwelling presence that you can experience the power of the Gospel in everyday life. Let me share just a couple of key passages.
- The Holy Spirit gives you assurance and confidence.
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. (Romans 8:16 NIV)
- He guides you into all truth by taking the things of Jesus and making them known to you.
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. (John 16:13-14 NIV)
- He gives you the power to understand and experience the love of God.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19 NIV)
- He works in you to will and to do of God’s good pleasure.
For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. (Philippians 2:13 NIV)
- He expresses the fruit of His life through us.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23 NIV)
Jesus Christ, through His abiding Spirit, is making a difference in the lives of people, just like our friends Wayne and Barbara, every day. He is the one who inspires you to get the word out so that others can know and experience the life of Jesus. He is the One who truly gives us relevance in the world today. Thank you for responding to his inspiration.

We do this by focusing our efforts toward large cities. On April 20th, we began broadcasting in Dallas, TX on KWRD 100.7 FM. This is a premier station in the 4th largest metropolitan area in the United States. More people than ever will be able to hear about and respond to Jesus. Support from you and others whose joy it is to “get the word out” made this possible!
Also, the date, July 1, is fast approaching for the release of my new book, Simple Gospel—Simply Grace. This has been in the works for almost two years and it will be a great thrill to see it in print! It’s a book that answers how the Christian life is really supposed to work.
