It was a short week from my vantage point. On Tuesday, my grandson, Bobby, and I went fishing in east Texas. It’s not often that I get time with him, so this was special. Yes, he caught a 6.52-pound largemouth bass (among others) and put me to shame!
On Friday we aired an Independence Day edition of Basic Gospel. Great insight from Bob Christopher on what we have enjoyed as a nation, but more importantly, what we who are believers in Christ Jesus have inherited as children of God.
As Americans we have been given so much. But from where I sit, it seems we take far too much for granted.
If you love this country, our culture, our way of life, I think it would be wise to review the Declaration of Independence every year as a reminder of the why behind it.
It’s a relatively short read, but The Declaration lays out in detail the grievances against King George and British rule.
You can read it here: http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/declaration_transcript.html
In reading it, you just might see some striking parallels in where we are in America today. Still, as God’s kids we should never forget that our ultimate victory is in Christ Jesus.
One of the most exciting things to have happened recently at Basic Gospel was the arrival—and this month’s official release—of Bob Christopher’s first Harvest House book, Simple Gospel – Simply Grace.
At last count close to 1,000 copies had already gone out!
By the way, with a gift of $15 or more to Basic Gospel you will receive your own copy of Simple Gospel – Simply Grace. Click “DONATE” on any page at basicgospel.net.

We received a very thought-provoking call and question from Anthony concerning the issues that arise in marriage … and how to deal with them.
Through the course of the conversation, Bob Christopher explained that wives and husbands have different needs within the context of marriage.
Do you know what they are?
To find out, click the link below and hear Anthony’s excitement in learning the underlying cause of strife in his marriage:
Sometimes a person comes back just to express his or her thanks for what they have received. This was true of George, who called to share what has happened in his life and family after speaking with us at Basic Gospel.
Basic Gospel’s Wednesday noon Bible study group has been reading through The Revelation. It is a very interesting study being lead and moderated by Richard Peifer who has studied the subject thoroughly and who has come to some interesting conclusions.
One such conclusion—actually an astute observation—came this past Wednesday when we were reading through Revelation 19, specifically the part about the Battle of Armageddon.
The armies are arrayed for battle in Israel’s Jezreel Valley. Two hundred million combatants are prepared for war. Jesus speaks … and it’s done.
I thought, ‘Wow! This battle has to be the greatest anti-climax in the entire panorama of human history!‘
Jesus speaks! And the enemies of our God are destroyed. The great “battle” is over!
The sad part of this is that in an instant, 200,000,000 souls are obliterated and face eternal separation from God. But by then many more than that have already met their doom.
All the more reason that we should not fail to tell our children, grandchildren, and our great grandchildren about the love of Jesus for them.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus… Titus 2:11-13 NASB
