Happy Labor Day weekend to you all and welcome to this first September edition of Inside the Studio.

If you are like me, you love holidays. But this one is, and will be, much different from the usual for the millions that have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. The enormity of human suffering and displacement due to the hurricane’s winds and its unprecedented rainfall are tempered only by the enormity of the human spirt exemplified by those who have literally come to the rescue of the tens of thousands who found themselves trapped and in peril of rapidly rising floodwaters.

For those of you in other areas of the country and world, please don’t forget the people of upper coastal south Texas. Even though the rain there has stopped and the news bureaus are moving on to other issues, many are still awaiting help and even rescue. Many also have lost their homes and belongings and will not recover for months, even years. Others have lost their lives. Those who remain need our prayers and our assistance.

So we pray for those who are enduring suffering and loss from this natural disaster, and give thanks for those who have left behind their lives and families in other parts of Texas and beyond to rescue those whose lives were and are in jeopardy. May our Lord God lift them all.

This Labor Day weekend we tackle another Hard Passage, 1 Peter 3:3&4. This passage concerns women’s clothing, hairstyles, and jewelry. It says…

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

Some Bible teachers say this passage means that it’s inappropriate for women to dress in fine apparel, wear jewelry, have their hair done in elaborate styles, and use makeup.

Others say that’s not the purpose of this passage at all.

But what is its true meaning and purpose? We’ll find out.

In addition, we’ll hear various other questions … with Basic Gospel answers that I hope will be of interest and help to you.
