Chris asks about our value in God's sight. It's easy to define our value by our performance. What does the gospel teach us about our true value? Sandra asks about her son's salvation. He prayed at age 4 to receive Christ - does he need to do that again now that he's an adult? Jeremy asks if repentance turning from a single act or turning away from our old life and toward Jesus? Our Canadian friend, Ryan, called to share the creative way he was able to communicate the finished work of Jesus to his young daughter. He thanks us for keeping the message simple and that we didn't name our ministry "Complex Gospel"! Ryan has terminal brain cancer and has found great encouragement through Basic Gospel. We have been equally encouraged by him. William calls asking about drinking and gluttony. Even Jesus was accused of such things. This questions leads to a discussion of our living sacrifice. Ed asked about Jeremiah 31:31. Was the promise of the New Covenant only for the house of Israel? Karen asks about showing God's grace to others. It takes a humble heart to receive and share the grace of God.

Memorial Day is a U.S. holiday observed on the last Monday of May honoring the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military. It originated, first called Decoration Day, sometime after the Civil War, and only after 1971 did it become an official Federal holiday. We honor those who have forfeited their lives in battle and service to our country and pray for the day when no more are maimed or die in the wars of man.

This week we address issues on retail store boycotts over transgender restrooms, teaching and talk about fresh anointing from God, prayers by the Basic Gospel staff for our listeners and donors, and how to draw someone out of an Old Covenant mindset and into the New Covenant.

Jay asks if "equally yoked" only pertains to spouses or does it also apply to friendships and business relationships. Stephanie called asking how to respond to a believer friend who is into pornography. This is a huge problem in the world today. The attitude is that sex is no big deal and there seems to be no sacredness within the sexual relationship. Bob discusses the natural consequences of sin as it pertains to pornography. Calvin calls for clarification about salvation. He knows he is saved but questions why he keeps turning back to sins. Does that mean his salvation isn't real? Marianne contacted us asking for an explanation of "God's glory" in the Old Testament. Bob explains Moses' experience with the glory of God. Richard points us to the fullness of Christ's work - we now have the glory of God living in us! That's a powerful truth to take in! Mary Jo wants to know which Bible passage really explains the New Covenant. The answer is Hebrews 8:10-12!

Our first call is from Alice. Her 18 year old granddaughter is confused and desires to have surgery to become a male. Bob encourages Alice in how to respond to such a heartbreaking situation. Aric calls to talk about the fact that we are already seated with Christ in the heavenlies. It is hard to understand that Christ lives in us here and we also live with Him there. What a message of hope! Also, Bob introduces Aric as the newest member of the Basic Gospel Board of Directors. Lavonna calls to encourage a listener struggling with pornography. Colossians 3:3-7 is a powerful passage. It is the grace of God enables us to say no to such things. Theresa calls to encourage listeners to get a copy of our CD, Drive the Stake - the Gospel message is one that we need to hear over and over. The more we hear it, the more the truth of Jesus becomes our reality and we can see it lived out in our daily life. Bill was a member of the Seventh Adventist Church and called with a question about the Ten Commandments. We are now ministers of the New Covenant, where God writes his laws on our hearts, not on stone. Jesus opens our eyes to truth and the reality of the New Covenant vs. the Old Covenant. Thanks for joining us!

Dwight calls with a question about a most important issue - can a believer lose their salvation? Far from popular teaching, our behavior has nothing to do with salvation. It is faith in Christ that saves us and faith in Christ that allows us to live a life of freedom. At Basic Gospel, we explain it as "FIRST faith, THEN change". Kelly emailed a question asking if God is in control of our lives - if so, why do bad things happen to good people? The answer is that we live in a world that dominated by sin and death; however, the victory is God's and He conquers sin and death. We will live with Him eternally. Curt wonders how to relate to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our teacher and He reveals to us the meaning of the Word of God. For insight into the role of the Holy Spirit, helpful passages are John 14 & 16, Ephesians 3:14-21, 1 John chapter 2, and 1 Corinthians 2:9-16. Lee wonders why churches don't teach the New Covenant. It is the New Covenant that binds us together as children of God - Jew and Gentile. Mary Ann called expressing thanks for Basic Gospel and encourages others to join in supporting the ministry. This week's Basic Gospel Weekend edition is full of good news! We invite you to listen as we address these topics:

  • David expresses his doubts about his salvation. Andrew and Bob share the Gospel and ask him to invite Jesus into his life. Powerful call!
  • Roberta asks about the word "agape". Bob explains that agape love is the one-way unconditional love of God and that it is an action word - God is actively loving us, being patient with us, and kind to us.
  • The 10 Commandments - are they still applicable today? Bob gives a great explanation of the Old and New Covenants. The New Covenant never is contrary to the 10 Commandments; however, because of Christ, we live in the New Covenant with its' laws of faith, hope and love.
  • John is a Jewish man actively considering converting to Christianity. His concern is about the curse found in Deuteronomy. Bob explains that everything is reconciled through Jesus Christ. He takes away the curse of the law - he took the curse upon Himself so that we could be set free. When we trust Christ by faith, we cross over from death to life and there is no condemnation for us! That's some good news!
