What happens when you die? Near the end of his own life, Paul wrote to the Philippians, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). Paul knew that once his body died, he would immediately step into eternity with Christ. That’s what eternal life is – an eternal relationship with Jesus Christ. In fact, John 17:3 tells us, “And this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” As believers, we are already experiencing eternal life in our earthly body. Death is simply a shedding of the earthly body. And, one day, we will be given new bodies – bodies that will never experience death again.
“Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8 NLT). If you have accepted Christ as your Savior, you can be fully confident that eternity awaits you and you will live with him forever.
