Why We Celebrate Christmas
Many elements of Christmas have ties to pagan holidays. December 25th honored Saturn, the God of Sowing. Thats exactly why the Romans chose December 25 to honor the birth of Jesus—to turn eyes away from the pagan ritual and put them squarely on Jesus Christ. No where in scripture do we see the actual date of Jesus' birth but Luke records the birth of Jesus in his gospel account, Matthew tells us how this blessed event came about, and John takes us heaven-side for an eternal perspective.
The birth of Christ isn't a made up story. It actually happened. Jesus Christ was born for your sake, to release you from the power of sin and death. And to give you new life in him.
The angels proclaimed "I bring you good news of great joy for unto you is a Savior has been born who is Christ the Lord."
This is good news for all of us! And it's worthy to celebrate every day of the year!
From all of us at Basic Gospel, Merry Christmas!
